Nog één jaar om je los te laten / One more year to let you go

Self-portrait with all the roses I collected before burning them.

Project description

In a last (?) effort to let you go, I decided to for one year buy myself a bouquet of roses every time i saw you. I photographed the roses every day. If i had a new bouquet, I would hang the old one to dry.

After three months I walked into a bar; the bartender looked like you. He asked me about the roses I was carrying and I told him about the project. He said that I should stop; that I wasn’t opening myself up to new experiences like this. At 10am, about twelve hours later, I exited the bar.

That last bouquet of roses never made it to the vase, only to the fire that I burned all acquired bouquets in a week later.

Whether I will every truly let you go, I don’t know. Perhaps I already have.
